Whirlwind. Adventure part one. We made it! We are in China just days away from Juni!!!!
Quick recap:
First off, when I was packing our bags on Wednesday, not one but two magical tiny ladybugs came into Juni's room.... in Montana.... in January. This is slightly more than unusual and since ladybugs are the official good luck symbol of adoption from China, well I just sat there amazed while the wee things flitted about in the sun. Which is another fabulous thing. We hadn't had sun for weeks and the day we flew out, there was a bluebird sky. It snowed the entire next day.
We decided to fly to Seattle a day early to be sure we would make our China flight and also to give Steve and I a little breathing room to sort of absorb it all in and be centered before our journey. We had an amazing evening in Seattle, wandering down by Pike's Place market and drank cracked coconut martinis during an incredible meal at a Thai restaurant called the Wild Ginger (Thanks Katrina for the recommendation.) We had beautiful weather in Seattle as well and managed to get all of our last minute things done before the last minute. Oh and we drove around in a skittle.
We were giddy by the time we got to the airport and both of us kept grinning like fools at each other. This hasn't stopped by the way. We both can't believe this is our life and we are so lucky.
About to take off!
Our flight was amazingly smooth, albeit very long. We got into Beijing at 9pm (6am our time) and I watched four movies. Yeah four. Steve fell asleep early on and I passed out for about an hour before they turned the lights on and handed us egg sandwiches and Thai burritos. Uh... okay. We got off the plane, our luggage was one of the first on the conveyor belt and then we cruised through customs with nothing to declare. Two minutes later we walked into the main terminal and our guide Michael was standing right there with the big green Great Wall China Adoption flag waving. Suddenly, we were whisked into a van, zoomed about 20 minutes away to our hotel, were told all about the upcoming day where we will tour the Forbidden City, Tian An Men Square, the Great Wall and a jade factory. The best part though was when Michael told us there had been a change in plans and we would be leaving for Jiangxi at 5:30am on Sunday and will get Juni that afternoon! Less than two days away!!!!
Here's our hotel, the Poly Plaza. I have no idea what it looks like seeing as we zipped out of the car, were told to leave our bags in front of the hotel and quickly went to check in. We are very excited to actually see what China looks like when it's not dark. For now, it is 11:30pm (8:35am- Montana time) and we just said good morning to our boys and Steve's mom Kathy. (WE LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH!) We are beyond tired and after a good giggle about the pillow menu, we are now going to pass out.
Love to everyone back home!
